AU REVOIR ANNA Charles Johnstone
“Au Revoir Anna” is the fourth book Charles Johnstone has now made of actresses from the 1950’s and 1960’s. The book works with “Sayonara Setsuko” and “Ciao Monica” to form a trilogy, with his book “Red Shoes” being the outlier.
Anna Karina was an actress that Johnstone discovered in the early 1970’s through her films with the legendary French director Jean-Luc Godard. The book is made up of 24 screenshots shot on expired Polaroid film, like the other three books in the series, “Au Revoir Anna” features Japanese stab binding and French fold paging.
Johnstone is once again working with his long time collaborator, Lea Simone Allegria. She created the front cover art of Anna Karina along with an illustration of Karina on the colophon page.
